A family dinner to remember

So little time yet so many choices! Those visiting Hanoi typically come for 3, 4 or maybe 5 days maximum. This poses a problem for foodies- how can all of the delectable delights of Hanoi be experienced in such a short space of time?

‘I recently spent two incredible weeks in Vietnam to visit my brother who lives in Hanoi,’ explains Cleopatra Sharpington. ‘My boyfriend, sister, her boyfriend and my mum also joined so it turned into a full family holiday. We spent four days in Hanoi, which means that we were limited to just four dinner options!’

Hanoi has justifiably become famous around the world for it’s fantastic food. From street kitchens serving up mouthwatering specialties to top class, world-renowned restaurants, there is spectacular food at every level. To some this is a double-edged sword- a visit to Hanoi is sure to be accompanied by incredible food but sampling everything is utterly impossible. Just think of all the dishes that are missed!

‘We left all the decision making to my brother as he knows all the great places to eat,’ Cleopatra continues. ‘He took us to four incredible restaurants and I have to say that this is the favorite. Not only was the food at Cau Go absolutely phenomenal, but the atmosphere was very elegant and the view; completely breathtaking.

Cleopatra had just finished her meal and was posing for pictures with her boyfriend, Ben. With the couple in the foreground and the thap rua, or turtle tower, spectacularly lit up in the background, it was clear they were making the most of this great photo opportunity. The rest of the family remained seated over some after dinner drinks and a plate of fresh fruit.

‘I work for a successful restaurant company in London so I know exactly what makes great dining- and how easy it is to get it wrong,’ Cleopatra explains. ‘But to be completely honest, I can’t really fault Cau Go. Everything is exactly right- the atmosphere, the service, the seating, the view… all were completely perfect. Central to any dining experience is the food- and the remarkable dishes at Cau Go actually exceeded my expectations. The vegetables were fresh, the meat was tender, and the flavors were extraordinary.’

‘My brother has lived in a number of different cities around the world and prides himself on knowing them better than even the locals. And after two weeks of unforgettable food across Vietnam, he has undoubtedly saved the best for last. My concern now is that we go back tomorrow and there is no Cau Go in London… I just may have to come back to Vietnam sooner than planned.’

Cau Go is the highlight dining experience of any trip to Hanoi and the restaurant is just as suitable for a romantic evening for two as it is for a full family dinner.
